About Us - My Story

My name is Marie-Claire and just like you, I'm a māmā. I started my dream job in December 2024, when I became Sienna's mother.

I started exclusively pumping before we got home from the hospital as traditional breastfeeding didn't work for us. I trialled a lot of different pumps, and every time I was experiencing challenges, whether it was discomfort, not emptying fully, massive 27mm flanges, odd design flaws that could easily be fixed, I just felt incredibly anxious and exasperated because I was genuinely struggling. I wasn't able to get support from customer service and when one of my wearables stopped working, I was told it was down to user error without them even looking at it (?). I was a first time mum, and I was lost, and felt unsupported while trying to rely on unreliable technology to feed my daughter.

Motherhood had been a beautiful adjustment, but feeding remained a constant challenge. I figured there had to be a better way, so late January '24, at six weeks postpartum, the idea of BreastFriend was born.

I invested my life savings into BreastFriend, trialing many prototypes with my own breasts before bringing what we know today as The Breasties to New Zealand. The final version is comfortable, quiet, hands free, efficient and a premium product at an affordable price point, that me and my breasts fully back. The Breasties are the pumps that allowed me to breastfeed my daughter for the majority of our breastfeeding journey, and they did so smoothly, comfortably and they saved my breastfeeding journey altogether.

I officially launched BreastFriend in July 2025, Sienna had just turned 7 months old. And I have a clear mission: to provide high-quality, reliable breast pumps at an affordable price, backed by empathetic support and expert troubleshooting.

I'm in the fortunate position that I know my product inside and out because I used it everyday, multiple times a day, so I'm always able to help. While I juggle motherhood and running BreastFriend, I usually get back to customer queries within 3-4 hours, every day of the week, because breastfeeding is a 'round the clock job and you shouldn't have to figure it out on your own just because it's Saturday.

My commitment to you

I operate from my home in Tauranga, and as you can see, I’m driven by my own experiences so I can ensure that you feel so much more supported than I ever did.

  • I'm proud to be the sole importer of New Zealand & Australia's most inclusive breast pump, offering 12 different flange sizes and a complete set with carry case and silicone nipple ruler.
  • This pump been designed to focus on performance and safety, using no toxic materials.
  • Because I’ve dealt with lack of support and frustrations while exclusively pumping, I personally handle customer service to provide genuine, honest and prompt support, 7 days a week.
  • The Breasties have been trialled and backed by Lactation Consultants & Midwives, many of whom use the pumps for their own breastfeeding journeys.

BreastFriend exists because I believe that mums deserve better: better pumps, better service, and better value for money.

Feel free to send me a message on hello@breastfriend.co.nz if you have any questions x
